My name is Maya, and I am a printmaker.
I grew up in South London, in the weird triangle between Brixton, Stockwell and the Oval, and up until now it would be fair to say I have always lived in London (or Kingston Upon Thames…) – but all that is about to change this summer.
My boyfriend and I are embarking on a huge adventure, and in June 2017 we will be picking up sticks and leaving the city we have always called home. We are embracing our love of travel and exploration in a completely new way – and are moving to Canada on the IEC visa.
This blog is a place for me to share all the things that excite me – merging my love of art, travel and printmaking – and hopefully giving some insight into the processes I use and what informs my creative practice / lifestyle. And I guess from June onwards, it will also be a place for me to share the experience of trying to establish myself in a new country!
This isn’t a one way street though. I want this to be a place for discussion and for sharing, so please get in touch if you have any questions – whether it be ‘how did you get your aquatint to look like that?’ or ‘where’s the best place to buy a sweet potato in south London?’ If you want to talk travel, nerd out on printmaking, or want to work on a collaborative project, just drop me a message and I’d love to get a conversation going!
